46th IEEE Symposium on
Security and Privacy

Student Travel Grants

Student travel grants are available to partially support full-time students participating in the 46th IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy (S&P). The grant will partially cover the registration fees and the travel expenses for the event.

Who Should Apply

We encourage applications from students from a wide variety of institutions, diverse backgrounds, and first-time attendees. Some of our funding sources are limited to students enrolled in U.S. institutions, but we fund students from international institutions as well. Undergraduate and graduate students will be considered for this award.

Award Criteria

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide awards to all the applicants. Awards will be determined by a committee of volunteers participating in the organization of the Symposium and the Workshops and chaired by the Student Travel Committee Chair. Preference will be given to students working on security and privacy, students who can show evidence of the financial need to attend the symposium or workshops, students from institutions not traditionally represented at the conference, and students from diverse backgrounds. The awards are not intended for authors of accepted papers or posters, but students with accepted papers will also be considered for travel grant awards. To ensure a diverse pool of awardees to the symposium, travel awards will be limited to at most one student per advisor, and at most two students from the same institution. In addition, students who have received a previous travel grant from the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy in 2022, 2023, or 2024 are not eligible for the travel grants.

Award Description

We will reimburse registration costs and partial travel expenses (hotel, transportation, and meals) for a total of up to $1,500 for domestic students and up to $2,000 for international students. For workshops, we will reimburse registration and partial travel expenses for up to $500 for domestic students and up to $1,000 for international students. If a student is selected to attend both, the workshops and the symposium, the total reimbursement will be up to $1,800 for domestic students and up to $2300 for international students. (Exact amounts may vary depending on the number of awards and last-minute donations we receive.)

How to Apply

Applications are due by March 28, 2025. Students will be notified by April 4th, 2025, and will be expected to register before the early registration deadline of April 11, 2025. Applications submitted outside of the submission period are not guaranteed to be considered.
