MAY 20-22, 2019 AT THE HYATT REGENCY, SAN FRANCISCO, CA
40th IEEE Symposium on
Security and Privacy
Travel grants are available to help partially cover the travel expenses of student attendees to the symposium and the workshops.
We encourage applications from students from a wide variety of institutions, diverse backgrounds, and first time attendees. The majority of travel grants will be given to students enrolled in U.S. institutions, but we also have funds to cover the participation of a limited number of students from international institutions. Undergraduate and graduate students will be considered for this award.
We are unable to provide awards to all applicants. Awards will be determined by a committee of volunteers participating in the organization of the Symposium and the Workshops and chaired by the Student Travel Chair. Preference will be given to students working on security and privacy, students who can show evidence of financial need to attend the symposium or workshops, students from institutions not traditionally represented at the conference, and students from diverse backgrounds.
In order to ensure a diverse pool of awardees to the symposium, travel awards will be limited to at most one student per advisor, and at most two students from the same institution. In addition, students who have received a previous travel award from the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy in the last three years may not be eligible for the awards.
We will reimburse registration costs and partial travel expenses (hotel, transportation, and meals) for a total of up to $1250 for domestic students and $1800 maximum for international students. For workshops we will reimburse registration and partial travel expenses for up to $500 for domestic students and up to $1000 for international students. If a student is selected to attend both, the workshops and the symposium, the total reimbursement will be $1450 for domestic students and $2000 for international students. (Exact amounts may vary depending on the amount of awards and last-minute donations we receive.)
Applications are due by March 22, 2019. Students will be notified by April 12, 2019 and will be expected to register before April 19. Applications should be submitted by filling out the form:
An application for a travel award will consist of a single PDF file with the student's resume, a statement from the student, and a letter from the student's research advisor with a justification of financial need. The student's statement should include a summary of research interests, and a statement of why the applicant will benefit from participating in the symposium
