MAY 18-20, 2015 AT THE FAIRMONT, SAN JOSE, CA
36th IEEE Symposium on
Security and Privacy
Travel grants are available to help partially cover the travel expenses of student attendees to the symposium and the workshops.
We encourage applications from students from a wide variety of institutions, diverse backgrounds, and first time attendees. The majority of travel grants will be given to students enrolled in U.S. institutions, but we also have funds to cover the participation of 4-5 students from international institutions. Undergraduate and graduate students will be considered.
We particularly encourage participants of the GREPSEC II Workshop to apply for travel grants to the IEEE S&P Symposium at http://www.ieee-security.org/grepsec/apply.html.
Given our limited funds, we are unable to provide awards to all applicants. Last year we only were able to provide awards to 35% of applicants. Awards will be determined by a committee of volunteers participating in the organization of the Symposium and the Workshops, and chaired by the Student Travel Chairs. Preference will be given to students working on security and privacy, students who can show evidence of financial need to attend the symposium or workshops, students from institutions not traditionally represented at the conference, and students from diverse backgrounds. The awards are not intended for authors of accepted papers or posters, but students with accepted papers will also be considered for travel awards.
In order to ensure a diverse pool of awardees to the symposium, we will provide travel awards to at most one student per advisor, and at most two students from the same institution. In addition, we will not provide awards to students who have received a previous travel award from the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy in the last three years. These conditions, however, do not apply for workshop travel grants.
Awardees stay for free at the Fairmont and share rooms with other awardees assigned by the committee. Though the room fee is covered, students are responsible for any incidental charges from the Fairmont. The nights of May 17-20 are covered for students who receive an award to attend the Symposium; the nights of May 20-21 are covered for students who receive an award to attend the workshops. In addition, we reimburse the registration costs and partial travel expenses (air, train, bus, taxi fares, and meals) for a total of up to $700 (registration and travel) for domestic students and $1100 (registration and travel) for international students.
Applications are due by March 13, 2015. Students will be notified by March 27, 2015 and will be expected to register by April 3. Applications should be submitted to Easychair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=travelgrantssp2015
Applicants have to select to apply for the Symposium award or the Workshop award.
An application for a travel award will consist of a single PDF file with the student's resume, a statement from the student, and a letter from the student's research advisor with a justification of financial need. The student's statement should include a summary of research interests, a statement of why the applicant will benefit from participating in the symposium, and how the applicant can contribute to the symposium through service or technical contribution.
